BIG EVENT LATEST
CONFIRMATION has been given that this seasons British Semi-Finals will not be re-staged.The meetings last week at Sheffield and Rye House, which were to offer the top seven riders in each progression to the British Final, both fell victim to the unprecedented run of bad weather which has hit the whole of the UK in 2012.With an uncertain forecast over the next couple of weeks and the showpiece Final at Wolverhampton now under three weeks away on July 30, the line-up for that event will now be determined on the basis of riders averages.Event organisers have always kept in mind the sporting requirement of giving as many riders as possible the opportunity to participate in the competitionwith the national title and a Wild Card place in the British Grand Prix up for grabs. But they have come to the conclusion that it would now be too risky to attempt a re-staging of both semi-finals, and the Final line-up is now expected in the near future.Major events co-ordinator David Hoggart said: The Management Committee have investigated the feasibility of re-staging the semi-finals, and that also involved assessing the weather forecast for the remainder of the month. The Met Office have advised us that regrettably the current unstable conditions are likely to continue until around July 23, and therefore we feel the risk of further postponements is too great which would then potentially impact on the Final itself. We must stress that although Rye House did have a provisional date set aside for a re-staging of their semi-final, this will now not take place. The line-up for the British Final will therefore be determined by averages, with the top sixteen eligible riders seeded to the event, and this list will be available shortly. We do regret that we are unable to stage the semi-finals, but the weather has placed us in an unprecedented situation with so many postponements. Throughout the semi-final process a number of clubs have experienced postponed and re-arranged fixtures of their own, and wherever possible the Management Committee have supported the clubs with those new dates. This did mean that on occasions riders were transferred from one semi-final to another, but I must stress that as much common sense as possible was applied in those situations. As far as the British Championship as a whole is concerned, we must also bear in mind we have a commitment to our broadcast partners Sky Sports on July 30, and we fully expect to be in a position to meet that commitment.*THE next major event on the National League calendar takes place at Mildenhall on Sunday July 22.West Row is the host venue for the National League Pairs which will feature the top two riders from each of the eight clubs as Stoke defend the title they won at Newport last year.

BELLE VUE have already registered their interest in bringing mid-season signing Ales Dryml back to the club next season.Aces boss Jim Lynch said: He is a great guy to work with and a very good team man. I cant see why there arent at least another three or four years left for him in top speedway and I cant see why he couldnt do those years with us.I never looked at him as a one-season wonder when we signed him. We have looked at making him part of the very big changes being planned for next year. We need the stability he offers because every side needs solid riders as well as stars.BIRMINGHAM No.1 Bjarne Pedersen says the Brummies are still very much in the play-off hunt following their dramatic home win over Coventry last week.Pedersen said: We made an OK start to the meeting, but Coventry really began to control everything after heat 4, so it was great to see the character we showed to turn it round and take 5-1s in heats 13 and 15.We are definitely still looking at the play-offs as a possibility. We have still got some meetings in hand, but every single match is very hard in this league so we need to work really hard to make those meetings count.COVENTRY boss Blayne Scroggins says the Brandon club are considering their options after two narrow away defeats last nighthaving held comfortable leads at both Kings Lynn and Birmingham.Scroggins said: I dont want to say too much at the moment, but we are seeing what we can do for the good of the team over the next two weeks, although there are no firm decisions at the moment. But were definitely looking at our options. It was still a good point at Kings Lynn but to be ten points up at Birmingham and lose was just not good enough, and theres no explanation for it. Everything looked so good early on.EASTBOURNE co-promoter Trevor Geer believes the Eagles recent away win at Coventry sends out a message that is side are very much in the hunt this season.Geer said: Our convincing win at Coventry sends a warning to the rest of the league that they ignore us at their peril. Four league points was a fabulous result and the team is just getting better and better.I believe there is still more to come. Confidence is high and we are well in the mix for the Elite League play-offs come the autumn.KINGS LYNN manager Rob Lyon admitted the Stars late comeback from six points down against Coventry had come as a pleasant surprisewith his side finishing strongly, just as they had in beating Poole in their previous home match.Lyon said: I thought it probably was all over, but you can never say never in sport. While there is still a chance you have to still believe you can do it. It was reminiscent of Friday in lots of ways.LAKESIDE boss Neil Vatcher admits the broken leg suffered by Richie Worrall earlier this month will cause the GB youngster to miss part of his World Under-21 Final programme.Vatcher said: Obviously he wants to do the World Under-21 rounds and although hell probably be fit from the third round onwards hell probably miss the first two. Definitely the first anyway, which is on July 21 and the next is on August 3.His injury obviously impacts on Lakeside as well because hed been really flying at reserve and hell be a hard act to replace. It is really frustrating to lose him and then getting Jonas (Davidsson) back, but thats typical speedway I guess.PETERBOROUGH skipper Kenneth Bjerre hopes his top-scoring performance in the clubs final meeting before the World Cup break can be a sign of things to come in the second half of the season.Bjerre said: Everything just worked well for me and I need to make sure it stays this way.My starts were good, which they havent been, and it was a lot of fun to go out and ride a brilliant track. The staff gave us the best track weve had all year, and I really enjoyed it.POOLE promoter Matt Ford has pinpointed rivals Swindon as major contenders for the Elite League title with the two clubs currently holding the top places in the table.Ford said: They are every bit as good as us. It was a shrewd move last week to bring in Dawid Lampart for Robin Aspegren, I thought that was an excellent move.Rosco (Alun Rossiter) has gone back to Swindon and he is just a very shrewd character who knows what to do. He has won a title and when you start having success you follow the same format.SWINDON star Troy Batchelor maintained his dramatically improved form with a paid maximum in the Robins home win over Lakeside, taking his total to 41 points in his last three Elite League matches.Batchelor said: The last couple of weeks Ive come on leaps and bounds from the start of the season, and its nice to be winning races.Ive found my feet again and found something that works, and hopefully that can snowball me into becoming the rider I was last year.WOLVERHAMPTON star Nicolai Klindt hopes to be back on a bike soon to test his damaged shoulder, having been out of racing since crashing against Poole in late-April.Klindt said: It is just whether the bone that was broken is 100% mended or not. As I have said before, I dont want to risk it in case I crash or anything because the doctor said that it is a very immature bone, so if I slid off I could very easily break it again. We have got the World Cup break at the moment, and hopefully after that I will go and have a skid somewhere.

BERWICK missed out on the chance to bounce back from their KO Cup exit to Ipswich when their weekend clash with Plymouth was rained-off.The Bandits have a busy run this week, however, with a trip to Edinburgh on Friday followed up by a home clash with Sheffieldand they then compete in the Premier League Fours at Peterborough on Sunday afternoon.EDINBURGH No.1 Craig Cook scored an Armadale paid maximum at the head of a powerful Monarchs display to get the better of Glasgow and move into the semi-finals of the Knockout Cup.Cook said: I enjoyed myself. It was a good meeting, track conditions were a bit tricky, but we all got stuck in and finished off the job we started at Ashfield.GLASGOW boss Stewart Dickson admitted the Tigers had been out-gunned at the top of the order as they exited the Knockout Cup with a 52-38 defeat at Scottish rivals Edinburgh last Friday.Dickson said: We didnt roll over to Monarchs and that was the important thing. But our top two didnt score that well, and in contrast Edinburghs top three were invincible and this made it very tough for us.IPSWICH completed a strong week of results with a 47-43 win at Redcar, with Rohan Tungate and Dakota North sharing the points in a last-heat decider for the clubs third away win in seven days.Manager Pete Simmons said: Its been a great week and our season is seriously back on track. Mat Tresarrieu was excellent at reserve, and what a great bounce-back by Dakota North. We worked hard for that.LEICESTER boss Glyn Taylor has admitted sympathy for the released Simon Lambert after the Lions moved last week to add Linus Eklof to their team.Taylor said: Riding at number two in the team like Simon has done all season is possibly the hardest position for someone to cope with. It was not an easy decision to make and we will do all we can to get Simon fixed up with another club.NEWCASTLE gained maximum points from the clash of two Premier League high-flyers against Somerset, but now have a doubt over top-scorer Ludvig Lindgren for this weekend after the Swede damaged a wrist in post-match practice.Manager George English said: That was an excellent result and the lads should be proud of their achievement to keep us well on top of the league table, but of course now we have further injury worries and can only hope Ludvig will be fit for our next away match on Friday night.PLYMOUTH have Ben Reade on stand-by ahead of their home clash with Glasgow on Friday if Nicki Glanz fails to recover from injury in time.Promoter Mike Bowden said: Glasgow have knocked us out of the cup and beaten us in the league, so we will be out to gain some revenge on Friday. Ben has been scoring some big points in the National League and I would be quite prepared to give him a run-out at reserve.REDCAR promoter Brian Havelock says the contrasting performances from two club assets made all the difference in the Bears narrow home defeat against Ipswich last week.Havelock said: Max Dilger had 1+1 while Mathieu Tressarieu had 11+4 for the opposition and both riders were in the reserve berth. A big difference. Max has his engines tuned back in Germany and I'm sure they are prepared for big tracks. Hence matters might not be right for our circuit. We aim to rectify this asap.RYE HOUSE switch to a 6pm start-time on Saturday for the Premier League visit of Scunthorpe, as the match is followed by a National League clash between the two clubs.Manager John Sampford said: We are expecting an extremely hard encounter, especially with the recent rider changes that Scunthorpe have made. Having said that, the boys will be totally fired up and determined to keep their recent momentum going. Its all about getting into the top six for the end-of-season play-offs, and this match is critical toward achieving that aim.SCUNTHORPE promoter Rob Godfrey has no qualms with Gary Irvings recent form as he brings the Scorpions asset back to the club following his release from Workington.Godfrey said: I have a duty to the fans and, with us hoping to mount a serious challenge for league honours, we just had to sign Gary. Workington have suggested a drop in form as the reason for his release but he had just one zero in seven races over the weekend and scored nine points (including two bonus points). To me that is a lot of important third places and that is all you can ask your lowest average rider to produce.SHEFFIELD will reduce admission prices to 10 for adults with under-16s free for this Thursdays derby clash with Scunthorpe as the Tigers promotion celebrate two years at the helm.Owner Neil Machin said: Its a way of thanking the fans who have stayed loyal and perhaps attracting the used-to-goes who have dropped off the radar, especially with it being a local derby meeting. Our matches with Scunthorpe are always great value and at 10, I think it is going to be a brilliant night of entertainment.SOMERSET promoter Debbie Hancock says the winter signing of in-form Jason Doyle has been a big key to the Rebels enjoying a strong season in 2012 as they challenge for silverware. She said: Hes come back and no-one can say that hes been anything other than sensational. He is an out-and-out No.1 and that is something that we have been lacking for the last two seasons.WORKINGTON have added Tero Aarnio and Ashley Morris to their line-up as replacements for Rusty Harrison and Gary Irving respectively as they now enter the crucial second half of the season.Comets manager Tony Jackson said: We welcome Tero and Ashley to the side while at the same time recognising the efforts of both Rusty and Gary to the Comets cause so far this year. There is still a lot for us to play for this season, starting with the Premier Fours at Peterborough on Sunday. If the team show the same sort of determination that they showed last Saturday at Derwent Park when we came back from nine-points down to snatch a memorable victory against Somerset then we should be okay. Saturdays clash with the Rebels had a bit of everything, including a new track record for Adam Roynon, and it was arguably the best match seen at Derwent Park in recent times.
