PETERBOROUGH upset the Elite League formbook with an incredible comeback to win 49-44 at reigning Champions Swindon. The leagues bottom club were 12-points down with five heats to go but secured an 8-1, two 5-1s and a 4-2 in the next four races with skipper Kenneth Bjerre unbeaten until Heat 15 and Patrick Hougaard piling up 18 (paid 19) at reserve.Panthers co-promoter Trevor Swales said: Kenneth was unlucky not to get a maximum, it was a brilliant performance, and as for Patrick I really dont know what to say about the ladit was top-drawer stuff, and for a reserve to go out and win Heat 15 away from home, thats something you dont see very often.I wont say too much yet, but at least now we could be back in with a bit of a shout. If we can carry this form on in our next few meetings I dont see any reason why we cant climb the table quickly.

(SPEEDWAY 2)LAKESIDE promoter Jon Cook says the Hammers must be on their guard as a much-changed Birmingham team visits Purfleet on Friday. The Elite League leaders are without the injured Chris Harris, unavailable doubling-up riders Jason Doyle and Josh Auty and Italian GP Wild Card Nico Covattibut Lakeside specialist Edward Kennett and Danish sensation Mikkel Bech are amongst the replacements.A home win would see the Hammers reclaim fourth place in the table from Poole, whilst Birmingham are looking to stretch clear of local rivals Wolves, who currently have the same points total.Cook said: We will need to be at the top of our game as we must secure three more Elite League. The addition of Bech certainly strengthens the opposition and also provides our fans with the attraction of seeing one of the Worlds most talked-about riders.

RECENT Sheffield signing Adam Roynon impressed alongside guest Richard Lawson as the Tigers took maximum points over Newcastle at Owlerton.Lawson, standing in for the injured Simon Stead, scored a paid maximum (12+3) and was joined by Roynon  (13) for 5-1s in Heats 13 and 15 to ensure a 49-41 win for the home side despite the visitors leading by four points with four races to go.Sheffield co-boss David Hoggart said: We were delighted with the result - it was a great meeting which was always touch and go with both sides in contention, but we're thrilled to have ended up taking all three points.Once we drew level I knew we were capable of finishing the job, and Richard Lawson and Adam Roynon did a great job for us in Heats 13 and 15 to make sure we got the win.

SCUNTHORPE promoter Rob Godfrey says his side are facing a make-or-break weekend as the defending Premier League Champions look to boost their play-off hopes. The Scorpions face a home match with Berwick on Friday and then a trip to sixth-placed Leicester on Saturdayand Godfrey believes two wins are essential. He said: For starters, we cant afford to drop a further home point, we need all three points off Berwick. Im sure the fans dont want our season to finish early, and will get behind the boys, as we seek to gain the convincing win that we need.   And then we need three or four points at Leicester. Anything else is going to leave us with a mighty mountain to climb in our remaining meetings.
