BIRMINGHAM boss Phil Morris says his side need to hit back quickly from double-defeat on the road after going down 50-40 at Lakeside on Friday. The Hammers produced a spectacular finish to the meeting with three 5-1s in the last three races to secure maximum points and move back into the Elite Leagues top four, whilst the Brummies drop to second place below Wolverhampton on points-differenceand the two sides meet on Wednesday at Perry Barr.Morris said: We knew it was going to be tough with all the absences, but at the end of the day the more solid team won.I think the Hammers were a little bit shocked when we led with only a few heats to go, but we threw it away and maybe should have capitalised more in the early heats. But what has happened has happened and we need to focus on the Wolves match now this coming Wednesday.(SPEEDWAY 3)

SOMERSET kept up their chase for a top-six place in the Premier League with a convincing 58-33 win over Redcar, who faded after an encouraging start. The points were shared across the first three races but the Rebels then took control at the start of a busy week, their scorechart being led by Josh Grajczonek with 14.Somerset boss Garry May said: It took us a few heats to settle down and get into the match, but after those three shared heats at the start of the match we got ourselves into a groove and just had too much for Redcar to contend with.Everyone in the team had a great meeting, and after nerves got the better of him in his opening ride, Lambo (Simon Lambert) was definitely on the pace and rode better than his final score would suggest.

COVENTRY returned to the top of the National League with a 48-45 win over Buxtonas the Hitmen salvaged a point from the meeting in the final two races. The Storm took a 5-1 over the previously unbeaten Charles Wright in Heat 13 to secure the win on the night, but Wright gained some revenge in the final race as he teamed up with Liam Carr to ensure the Hitmen also took some reward.Coventry co-boss Blayne Scroggins said: We wanted all three points so weve dropped one, but lets concentrate on the two and now move on to Monday (at Kent).Buxton have certainly found form in the last few weeks and when youve got Charles Wright there you know youve got points in the bag.
