Sweet 16 for Cammish at Snetterton Formula Ford

Dan Cammish brushed aside a challenge from Harrison Scott at the start of this afternoons 16th round of the Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain to secure his 16th consecutive victory for the JTR team and extend his points lead. The Yorkshireman led all the way from pole position to chequered flag to beat Scott to the line by five seconds.

Said Dan: It was perfect, sweet 16. Harrison got a really good start - I thought mine was good but his was even better - but he didnt want to get brave and try to take me around the outside of turn one, so I was able to make a break and control the race from there. Happy days.

Qualifying reportCammish scooped three pole positions and a 1000 prize for his efforts in qualifying at Snetterton. The championship leader brushed aside an early-session drama to quickly accelerate to the top of the timesheets and sweep the board in the 20-minute session, bringing his tally of poles for the season so far to 17.

The JTR Mygale driver has now secured the 1000 Sky Ford Pole Position Award, and was delighted with his performance: Its a real bonus for the team and Im very pleased to have won it so early in the season, said the Leeds 24-year-old. It wasnt exactly a straightforward session: on my out lap I realised there was a control box loose and rattling around in the cockpit and I had to pit to have it secured. That was easily fixed but it cost me a few laps of running. The car felt great.

Cammishs best time was 1.1s better than that of his closest rival, Falcon Motorsports Harrison Scott. That was a good session for me, said Harrison, who will start second in all three races, but we still have work to do to close the gap to Dan.

Jamuns South African star Jayde Kruger was third quickest overall, his Mygale returned to fine fettle after problems in testing yesterday. Sam Brabham secured fourth for the JTR team, ahead of Jamuns Argentinian duo Nico Maranzana and Juan Rosso. JTRs Camren Kaminsky was seventh and championship newcomer Zaid Ashkanani an impressive eighth in his SWB-run Sinter. There were turbo boost problems for Andy Richardson, whose Richardson Racing Mygale is suffering with new-engine installation problems. Andy was 10th quickest, just behind James Abbotts Radical Mygale. Formula Ford debutant Connor Mills was 11th for Meridian Motorsport.

Round 16 reportScotts getaway from second position on the grid in his Falcon Motorsport Mygale was a highlight, and it certainly caught Cammish by surprise. Dan and Harrison arrived at the first corner, Riches, side by side but, with Cammish hogging the inside line, there was little that Scott could do to wrest the lead from him. Dan slotted in front and strode away to complete the opening lap two seconds clear of his rival.

Scott pursued him to the end to secure his fifth second-place finish of the season and seventh Scholarship class win: Im happy with that, said, a steady race with no problems. I made a good start but couldnt quite get ahead of Dan. I had a big gap behind me so I slowed to save my tyres towards the end.

Sam Brabham made a rocketship grid getaway also to slot ahead of Jayde Kruger on the opening lap, but the JTR Mygale man dropped back to fifth by the end of lap one with the beginnings of a clutch problem which would bring his retirement after six laps. His team-mate Camren Kaminsky was in similar bother, the American pulling off after just a lap.

South African Kruger ran third for the rest of the race, finishing well ahead of his battling Jamun team-mates Juan Rosso and Nico Maranzana to collect the second podium finish of his short season. Jayde was disappointed: We are slow, to be honest. I am losing a second on my team-mate down the straight and now the cars not handling great. Well have to have a look and see what can be done.

James Abbott finished behind Rosso and Maranzana to claim sixth in his Radical Motorsport Mygale, seven seconds clear of Andy Richardsons Mygale. With Connor Mills a non-starter through engine problems, SWB Sinter racer Zaid Ashkanani was ninth and the final finisher.

Cammish has two further opportunities to extend his championship lead tomorrow at Snetterton, with the final race screened live on ITV4.
