Wins 17 and 18 for Cammish virtually guarantee Formula Ford title for the JTR driverDan equals Scott Malverns record for most wins in a Formula Ford seasonHarrison Scott is the triple Scholarship class winner at Snetterton
Dan Cammish edged ever closer to the Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship crown at Snetterton today, winning both of the days races to add to the victory he scored in Norfolk yesterday. In so doing, Cammish equals the record for the most number of wins scored in a single Formula Ford season, established by Scott Malvern in 2011.
Round 17 reportCammishs Dunlop MSA Formula Ford steamroller continued unabated at Snetterton this morning, the Yorkshireman putting in another copybook performance to win from pole position. This time the JTR Mygale drivers victory advantage was 5.7s.
Cammish made a perfect getaway from the pole to slot in front into turn one; he completed the opening lap two seconds clear of Jayde Krugers Jamun Mygale and built his lead to eight seconds by mid-distance before easing his pace towards the end.
Cammish issued a heartfelt podium plea for his rivals to make his job more difficult: Im not knocking this success but I need some competition to keep me sharp; for the sake of my own driving I need someone to race now. I dont know what to say other than the team has done a superb job for me I cant thank them enough for what they have given me.
Though unable to live with Cammishs speed, Kruger easily outpaced the rest of the field in the early laps, the South Africans mechanics having found some worthwhile overnight tweaks to the set-up of his Mygale. But towards the end he came under heavy pressure from Falcon Motorsports Harrison Scott. We are still struggling with tyre wear, said Jayde, and the straightline speed we are missing we are not going to be able to find this weekend. We made some changes and initially it seemed to be a step in the right direction, but towards the end of the race Scott was catching me quite dramatically. Luckily he made a few mistakes so we got lucky.
Harrison was pushed back to fourth on the opening lap by a determined Sam Brabham, who dived down his inside into Agostini to seize third. But the JTR rookies podium run was ended by a severe oil leak and ensuing engine problems which brought about his retirement after four laps.
Brabham was leaking oil in front of me so every time I got close to him I lost grip, said Scott. After he pulled off I started to catch Kruger, and I nearly got there. On the last lap I caught him into Murrays, but then I got a fuel surge and that stopped me from trying to pass. Harrisons third place also netted the Essex youngster his eighth Scholarship class win of the season.
Nico Maranzana passed JTR man Camren Kaminsky early on and then held off his Jamun team-mate Juan Rosso to take fourth. The car is improved and I think I can now get back to the podium with it, said Nico, who was a bare tenth clear of Rosso at the line.
Kaminsky was unlucky to clip the rear end of Scotts car on the opening lap when Harrison braked sharply to avoid contact with Brabham as he was passed. American Camren battled against the resulting wing damage to his car to claim sixth ahead of the Radical Mygale of James Abbott and Zaid Ashkananis SWB Sinter. The Kuwaiti driver passed Andy Richardsons tyre-damaged Mygale on the last lap to claim the final step on the Scholarship podium.
Connor Mills, who missed Saturdays race with engine problems, enjoyed a great Formula Ford debut. With a new engine installed overnight in his Mygale by Meridian Motorsport, he claimed 10th despite a last-minute glitch which meant he had to start from pit lane. I was catching the pack and went two seconds quicker than in qualifying, said Connor, so it was a positive first outing.
Round 18As with his earlier Snetterton victories, Cammish assumed command from the off, converting his pole position into a useful lead into turn one and then a two-second advantage by the end of the opening lap. Unlike others, Cammish tip-toed around oil dropped on the track by the poorly engine of Meridian Motorsports Connor Mills. I realised when I went over it the first time and didnt do it again, said Dan, but Im not sure how the others coped with it.
Not too well was the answer - there were lurid moments for several, including Nico Maranzana and Jayde Kruger, who slid off at Riches while disputing third place on the third lap. That handed third place to Sam Brabham, his JTR Mygale restored to health by a between-race engine change. Sam hounded down race-long second place man Harrison Scott towards the end, closing to within two seconds, and was delighted with his positive end to a difficult weekend: I knew I could do it this time. The car was great, although I was worried that the clutch was slipping a bit on the last lap, said Sam.
Scotts Falcon Motorsport Mygale finished 12 seconds behind Cammish for his third podium of the weekend and a hat-trick of Scholarship class wins. Three races: two seconds a third - I have got to be happy with that, said the Essex youngster.
JTRs Camren Kaminsky ran fourth until lap nine, when Jamuns Juan Rosso seized the spot with a decisive move around the outside at Riches. Kaminsky beat off a challenge from Nico Maranzana on the next lap but alas the American did not finish the race - he robustly defended his fifth place from attack by Kruger into the final corner, they made contact and Kaminskys race was run. This incident played into Andy Richardsons hands: the Lincolnshire lad, still battling heavy tyre wear, seizing fifth within sight of the flag. Kruger recovered to finish sixth.
Zaid Ashkanani placed seventh for SWB and Sinter, ahead of James Abbott, who had looked good for another top-six finish until running well off the track at Murrays on the sixth lap. Maranzana, whose attempted pass on Kaminsky led him to spin, completed the field in ninth.
Cammish, who says his avowed intent is now to wrap up the championship title as soon as possible, and his rivals head north of the border for their next outings, at Knockhill in Fife at the end of the month.
