FW Motorsport has regrettably withdrawn Fergus Walkinshaws #91 Ginetta G55 from the the Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup at Snetterton, Norfolk, (Sunday) due to a potentially terminal engine issue.

The Chipping-Norton team worked around the clock on Friday night to replace the 3.7-litre engine after an unresolvable issue was detected following official testing. Despite the outfits outstanding efforts to ensure Walkinshaw was on the grid for round 15 yesterday, the 22 year-old team owner/driver then battled with a significant loss of power on the loan engine throughout the seven-lap race.

After a thorough examination of both the data and the car, including checking the catalytic converter, fuel pump, spark plugs, fuel pressure and flow, no problems were detected. Walkinshaw took to the grid for round 16 on Sunday morning, but with the car still underpowered and losing places lap after lap, FW Motorsport had little choice but to withdraw the car.

Walkinshaw commented: Its obviously very disappointing to withdraw the car halfway through the race weekend, but with the significant power issues we are still suffering with the loan engine it would be a destructive decision to continue.

Although the #91 car wont be joining the Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup grid this afternoon, we will be loaning out the cars radiator to help fellow competitor Dan Norris-Jones continue his campaign. We have a bit of a gap in the BTCC calendar before the next rounds at Knockhill, and we will be back in battle for the teams native home rounds.

FW Motorsport will return to Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup action at Knockhill, Scotland, 24-25 August.
