All action weekend for Jordan and Pirtek Racing at Snetterton

Andrew Jordan and his Pirtek Racing Honda Civic were at the heart of a day filled with action and high drama during rounds 16, 17 and 18 of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Snetterton (4 August). With a fantastic drive to victory in the second race and a gritty performance while coping with carbon monoxide fumes inside the car in race three, Andrew ended the day just nine points behind championship leader Matt Neal.Andrew and the team went to the Norfolk track carrying 36kg of success ballast on his car and expecting it to be a tough weekend. Despite the handicap, Andrew qualified a strong fourth behind the two MGs, while Jeff Smith was only a second slower in other Pirtek Honda, but that second equated to 11 places on the grid, such is the level of competition in the BTCC.In the opening race, Andrew battled hard with reigning champion Gordon Shedden on his way to a fighting fifth overall and at the flag he was right on the tail of the three cars ahead of him. Race two was full of action as fortunes changed at just about every corner in typical BTCC style. However, Andrew was driving a masterful race on the soft tyre option and battled through to second behind the BMW of Colin Turkington. Then, when Turkington ran fractionally deep into Oggies Corner, Andrew cut in tight to pull up alongside on the exit. Turkington tried to shut the door, but it was too late and the cars touched, sending Turkington wide and putting Andrew into a lead he took to the flag. What a fantastic race, said Andrew. I thought we could win that and it is a great result for Pirtek Racing. Colin was defending very well, but I got under him and he tried to close me down. That is really, really good for our championship campaign. Andrew started race three from P8 on the reversed grid and was soon in trouble. His Honda got a knock at the back of the car which deranged the exhaust down pipe and allowed fumes into the cockpit. He battled on to finish seventh, but by the end of the race Andrew was feeling pretty groggy and came straight out of the car and onto oxygen at the medical centre. Nevertheless, it had been another excellent day for Pirtek Racing. Im very pleased with a good result at a circuit where we didnt expect to be that strong, said Andrew, who had cut Matt Neals championship lead from 19 points to just nine.
