It was a case of charity begins at Oulton Park following the incredibly successful Silverstone Auctions Pride & Joy classic car and charity auction at Chris Evans CarFest North, which raised a fantastic 115,651 for BBC Children In Need.A crowd of thousands saw 20 of the cars on offer successfully hammered away for a total of more than 350,000 with dozens of charity lots also being snapped up by eager festival goers.Nick Whale, managing director, Silverstone Auctions, said: There was a real buzz in the crowd throughout the afternoon and this was reflected in not only the fantastic amount that was raised for BBC Children in Need, but also the great prices that were achieved on many of the cars on offer.Two charity car lots, where proceeds from their sale went to BBC Children in Need, did particularly well. First up was a stunning and unique 1973 Jaguar E-Type S3 V12 2+2 Roadster Auto, built by Vicarage Classic Car Company, one of the best Jaguar specialists in the world. The entire 73,025 proceeds from the sale of the car were very generously donated by the vendor to the charity as well as all of Silverstone Auctions fees from its sale.A VW Camper that was tirelessly converted during the CarFest weekend by nine staff from renowned specialists Camper King of Kineton in Warwickshire , made 22,425, with 6,425 going to Children In Need.However, a number of other eye-catching classics were hotly contested including a stunning a 1966 Jaguar E-Type S1 fixed head coupe 2+2, which sold for 34,500, an amazing 1987 Ford Sierra Cosworth with just 3,300 miles from new, which fetched 28,750, a 1988 Ferrari 328 GTS, which sold for 29,200, and a beautiful 1967 Alfa Romeo Duetto Spider, which sold for 17,250.Of course, the ex-Chris Evans owned 1964 Austin Mini Mk I, built to Cooper specification, was hammered away to great applause by the crowd, eventually selling for 10,235.And Chris Evans, the driving force behind CarFest, couldnt resist taking to the auction rostrum adding even more razzamatazz to the lively sale.
