SWINDON missed the chance to go back to the top of the Elite League as the Robins were beaten 52-40 at resurgent Peterborough on Friday.Skipper Kenneth Bjerre scored a paid maximum for the home side, whose third straight victory moves them up to eighth place in the table, and their solid all-round showing was in contrast to the visitors who relied heavily on Peter Kildemand and reserve Kyle Howarth.Peterborough co-promoter Trevor Swales said: Its never over until its over and whilst there is a mathematical chance of reaching the play-offs well be trying to get there. We can still get something out of the season but we have to make up for all the points we dropped at home, and this was another strong all-round performancenow we move on to Poole next Wednesday.(SPEEDWAY 3)

COVENTRYS Polish star Krzysztof Kasprzak was in top form as his side ended a recent poor run by taking maximum points from a 50-43 win over Wolverhampton.Kasprzak, who scored 14, got the better of fellow Grand Prix man Tai Woffinden in Heats 13 and 15 after Wolves had threatened to salvage a point from the meeting despite the absence of No.1 Freddie Lindgren.Coventry boss Gary Havelock said: KK (Kasprzak) is a confidence rider, hed just picked another engine up and you could see from Heat 1 he was happy with it. When hes like that, hes as good as it gets.Meanwhile Lakeside moved up to fourth in the table, six points behind Wolves with three matches in hand, after beating Eastbourne 56-37 at Purfleet.Peter Karlsson (13) top-scored for the Hammers in a meeting which saw Lakesides Sebastian Ulamek and Eastbournes Kim Nilsson taken to hospital after a heavy crash in Heat 6.(SPEEDWAY 4)

EDINBURGH moved into second place in the Premier League with a 45-32 win over Sheffield in a meeting cut short following a crash in Heat 13.The Monarchs Claus Vissing and Tigers guest Robert Branford both required lengthy treatment after a high-speed tangle before being taken to hospital.Branford has a dislocated elbow whilst Vissing has a sore head and neck but seemingly no broken bones.Sheffield co-boss David Hoggart said: It was a good meeting and in many ways it was typical Sheffield, we were really up for it and it resulted in bad luck and an injury. Its a real shame that the meeting ended the way it did and hopefully both Claus and Rob are back on a bike very soon.

SOMERSET secured their biggest-ever win over local rivals Plymouth with a 59-36 victory over the Devils at the Oaktree Arena to move up to fourth place in the Premier League.Jason Doyle and Nick Morris both scored maximums for the Rebels, with the home side providing all but one of the heat wins.Somerset boss Garry May said: We were on it right from the off and never gave Plymouth a look-in, and to be honest there was only ever one team in it. All the boys rode well and we were more than deserving of our victory. What we need to do now is to carry on from where we left off in (Saturdays) return fixture at Plymouth. We are obviously targeting four league points from our match there, and any points gained will help to not only consolidate our place in the top six, but also see us move closer to a possible top two finish ahead of the play-offs.
