EASTBOURNE boss Trevor Geer admitted he was surprised and delighted to see his patched-up side race to a 49-41 win over rivals Lakeside at Arlington. The Eagles were without four of their regulars due to injury and unavailability but still secured maximum points from the meeting with reserve Timo Lahti (13+1) keeping up his improved form whilst Bjarne Pedersen (13) and Simon Gustafsson (11+1) both contributed double-figures.Geer said: With Cameron (Woodward), Mikkel (Michelsen) and Lukas (Dryml) all missing, it was always going to be a tall order for us to take points from this meeting. The news from Lakeside that Kim Nilsson was also ruled out further dampened our chances. On the face of it, this was a match that we couldnt have expected to win, but the team spirit was superb and that, along with supreme effort is what carried us through. We are delighted with all of the boys.(SPEEDWAY 3)
BIRMINGHAM will welcome back No.1 Chris Harris for their local derby trip to Wolverhampton on Monday.Harris has been out for a fortnight with a broken collarbone but after a successful operation at the start of the week he has declared himself fit to return.Birmingham skipper Danny King said: The team struggled without Bomber at Swindon on Thursday so it will be good to be nearly back to full strength for the match and we're expecting a tough night.Speedway riders often tend to halve if not quarter the usual healing time of regular human beings, so it's no surprise that Chris is desperate to get back on his bikes as soon as he can.(SPEEDWAY 4)
SCUNTHORPES David Howe has announced his intention to take a break from the sport.Howe has suffered inconsistent results this year after returning from an injury-plagued 2012 season, and has scored just 11 points in his last four meetings for the Scorpions.Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: This is not an unexpected decision from Davidits not a bolt out of the blue. Its obvious that hes been struggling with his confidence this season.David needs some time out from speedway and we respect his decision. The way it works is that he is given a 28-day ban and we then have a facility to cover for him.(SPEEDWAY 5)
