Round eight of the Pirelli National Superstock Championship took place this weekend at Oulton Park. The Be Wiser Kawasaki team had another mixed weekend with their best result coming from Nick Anderson in the Pirelli National Superstock 600 where he gained a solid tenth place. Josh Day ended up 14th in the Superstock 1000 class and unfortunately Josh Wainwright had a mechanical problem and was forced to retire.
In the National Superstock 600 class Nick Anderson managed to qualify in 13th place, he gained a good start and was locked in a tight battle throughout the race and made a number of confident passes to gain a position on the last lap to finish in 10th.
Nick Anderson - "That was a really hard race as it's such a physical track to ride. It has been another confidence building weekend and I'm pleased with a top ten result and want to keep improving for the remainder of the season. My race pace was good again I just need to suss out qualifying and get myself higher up on the grid to stand me more of a chance of a good result. The first few laps of the race were really messy whilst everyone was trying to fight for a position, I've learnt if I want a result I have to stamp my authority to keep my place. It's certainly mad on the opening laps, that's why it's important to try and sort qualifying up so I'm not involved in all that. I've managed to really relax this weekend and enjoying riding the bike which in turn has stopped me getting arm pump. We've a test at Cadwell tomorrow so hopefully we can find a good base setting before the race."
Josh Day once again struggled during the qualifying sessions and ended up in 13th place on the grid. He was eager to get a good result in the race but after struggling with his asthma all weekend he was unable to challenge the other riders like he would have liked ended up in 14th place.
Josh Day - "Despite the result it was a good weekend all in all. I was only 0.8 off the front row in qualifying which is really tough and shows the quality and level of rider in the Championship this season. I was feeling confident for the race and eager to get going, I messed up though and forgot to take my asthma inhaler before the start of the race and half way through I was struggling to get in the air and oxygen I needed and tired quickly. I wanted to keep pushing on but I was lacking in so much energy that it was impossible so I'm glad I was able to finish and get in the points.
It was a positive weekend though my race pace was good, the team are working so well together and there is a really good team atmosphere within the team which makes things much easier. Everyone is happy and getting on, there is no stress or pressure and it's a great team to be a part of. I must say a big thanks to Alan, Paul, 100%, Craig and my Dad for everything it's been really good and it gives me a lot of confidence I want to finish the season on a high now, the results didn't justify how things had gone this weekend."
Josh Wainwright had another tough weekend and was only able to qualify in 19th place for the 14-lap race. He got a great start and was up to 16th at the end of the first lap and was slowly working his way through the field. However a mechanical problem on lap eight forced him to pull out of the race.
Josh Wainwright - "It's been another tough weekend for me, I struggled to get a good qualifying set up which put me down on the grid in 19th place, I was only 1.4 seconds off pole position. The class is so tough this year and it's really important to try and find those extra tenths to pull you up the grid. I got a pretty good start but being back there on the first few laps there is a lot of traffic and everyone is fighting for the same position. I was in a battle and pushing towards a points scoring position when my bike broke and I was forced to pull off the track. I'm really disappointed and I hope a bit of luck falls in my direction at Cadwell."
Team Owner/Manager Alan Grieg - "Despite the results not fully showing it the team had a good weekend. We have to get the qualifying sorted out for them all and it's important that they are higher up on the grid in qualifying to give them half a chance of a good result in the race. With them having a poor qualifying session they all left themselves with a lot of work to do during the race.
In the Stock 1000 class Josh Day had the pace to run with the front runners but unfortunately he was struggling with his asthma over the weekend and it affected him during the race making him tired and unable to fight for a top ten place.
Josh Wainwright also had good pace mid race and all was looking good but once again he was struck by bad luck with a mechanical failure on a really simple component, it seems to be on going bad luck for the team this year and we hope it will change for the final rounds.
Nick got a good result in the Stock 600 class but again his qualifying position let him down as his pace in the race was really good. Once again he improved in every session that he went out on track and has come on leaps and bounds since the start of the season.
We are looking forward to our home round at Cadwell Park in a couple of weeks and hope the riders are able to sort out the qualifying and get a handful of strong results there."
