RICKY Ashworth remains in intensive care in Hull Royal Infirmary following his crash at Scunthorpe earlier this month. The BSPA are liasing with Ashworths club Berwick, Speedway Riders Benevolent Fund and the SCB to give all possible assistance to help and support his family. Ricky Ashworth wristbands, listed on Ebay, are available from the Berwick Bandits 2012 Group. Management Committee member David Hoggart said: Ricky's overall situation remains ostensibly unchanged, he is still asleep. He is undergoing wake up trials with encouraging results but there is still a long way to go.His family are, of course, enduring a torrid time and are overwhelmed by the messages of support. His step-mum told me that everyone has been so kind and they have asked for their thanks to be passed on. She has also praised the medical team who are providing round-the-clock care and feels that the family will never be able to thank them enough.

GREAT Britain and Australia have declared their teams for the Fourth Test at Workington on Saturday.GB take a 2-1 lead into the meeting but an Australia win would give them a chance of snatching the series in the final match at Newcastle on Sunday. Both sides include plenty of Derwent Park experience, although a broken collarbone suffered by Adam Roynon at Somerset will force GB into a late change.Workington owner Laura Morgan said: To be able to stage this meeting in our first year as a new promotional team is a great honour for us, and we are sure that everyone will have a great evening as the two oldest rivals in the sport go head-to-head for speedways version of The Ashes.GB: Craig Cook, TBC, Josh Auty, Richie Worrall, Richard Lawson, Andrew Tully, Kyle Howarth.AUSTRALIA: Micky Dyer, Rusty Harrison, Dakota North, Kevin Doolan, Aaron Summers, Max Fricke, Hugh Skidmore.

PETERBOROUGH blew the race for the Elite League play-offs wide open with a shock 51-39 win at Poole on Wednesday.Panthers skipper Kenneth Bjerre kept up his fine run of form with a paid maximum to move his side firmly into the fourth-place battle, following on from their recent win at champions Swindon.Peterborough boss Trevor Swales said: The most pleasing thing about the performance was that every single rider chipped in with good rides, and the team spirit is absolutely amazing now. I know we shouldnt get too carried away but with team spirit like that, you cant not win!I think some of the other teams will be getting very nervous about the run were on now, and theyll probably start to respect us a bit more as well. I certainly wouldnt rule out our chances.

EASTBOURNE will be boosted by the return of Kim Nilsson and Lukas Dryml for their next Elite League match against Kings Lynn on Monday.Dryml is back from a broken collarbone whilst Nilsson has made a quicker than expected recovery from his crash at Lakeside last week.Eagles boss Trevor Geer said: It is a pleasure to announce a full-strength team and not to be scouring the country for replacements. When Kim crashed at Lakeside last Friday it did look as if he had broken his ankle. Fortunately that was not the case and he was back racing on Tuesday.
(SPEEDWAY 5)SOMERSET took over as Premier League leaders after overcoming wet conditions to thrash Sheffield 68-23 at the Oaktree Arena. It turned out to be a memorable night for Rebels reserve Stefan Nielsen, with a first paid maximum at PL level, whilst Tigers captain Adam Roynon suffered a broken collarbone in a first-bend crash in Heat 15.Somerset boss Garry May said: The track staff worked their socks off to get the track surface in as good a condition as possible given the circumstances and the fact we got all 15 heats completed was testament to their efforts.Stefan was fully deserving of his maximum, as were Nick (Morris) and Josh (Grajczonek), but in saying that all the boys had a great night to send us to the top of the table and on to our three-match Northern Tour this weekend with a good win under our belts.(FIXTURES)
