McCullagh and Bradshaw Renew Porsche Club Title Battle at Castle Combe

Porsche Club Championship with Pirelli - Rounds Nine and Ten - Castle Combe, Wiltshire

After a mid-season break the chase for the 2013 Porsche Club Championship crown is back on at Castle Combe this coming Bank Holiday Monday, August 26th, with John McCullagh and Tom Bradshaw heading the title chase. Each has dominated their class this season, with Class Two points leader McCullagh holding a slender ten point advantage in the overall standings over Class One pace-setter Bradshaw, and the pressure is on both drivers to continue their run of success at Combe.

Bradshaw has taken six out of eight overall race wins to date this season in his rapid Hartech Boxster S, but goes into Combe with a small increase to his minimum weight reflecting the pace of the car in recent races. Last driver to beat Bradshaw was Paragons Mark Sumpter after an inspired tyre change in a wet Silverstone race saw him drive through the field in two laps. Winner of both races at a damp Combe last season, Sumpter and team-mate Adrian Slater should be in the mix this coming Monday.

Pete Morris is another who usually goes well at Castle Combe and he chased Sumpter home in both races last season. Fellow 996 C2 racer Mark McAleer is another to have gone well there before and has been a consistent front-runner so far this season.

McCullagh has won his class in every race bar one this season, and was only defeated by an electrical problem on his 968 CS on that occasion. A former works rally driver, McCullagh is unfazed by wet weather, and if this Monday is at wet as last year should be well up in the top ten overall. Mark Koeberle is second in the class points, and traditionally has always gone well at Combe, while Stuart Ings, third in class will be keen to go well at his local circuit.

The 20-minute qualifying session is at 08.45 on Monday morning, with the two 25-minute races at 13.00 and 16.40. As first race of the day, the Porsche field will form up on the grid prior to the lunch break in order to provide a static display for the usual large Castle Combe crowd.
