Racecar client Charlie Robertson Marks New 'Rising Star' Status With Podium

Charlie Robertson raced to the seventh podium finish of his debut season in single-seaters during round 16 of the BRDC Formula 4 Championship at Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit over the weekend, 17th/18th August, hot on the heels of being named a British Racing Drivers Club Rising Star.Invited onto the clubs prestigious young driver programmewhich sets out to identify the cream of UK motor racing talentfollowing an interview on Friday evening at its Silverstone base, Whyteleafe driver Charlie went on to deliver three consistently strong race performances across the weekend.Qualifying third fastest for round 16 with a time of 2m06.101 seconds (104.50mph), just 0.2 seconds shy of the front row, Charlie made a good start to Saturdays encounter to hold his top three placing before brilliantly passing championship leader Jake Hughes for second.Closing to within 1.2 seconds of the race lead by the end of lap two, and setting fastest lap pace early on, the HHC Motorsport driver remained within exactly the same distance of first place into the second half of the encounter but then began to come under pressure from a resurgent Hughes.On lap eight, an unfortunate moment for the teenage Scotsman at Brooklands cost him any chance of finishing in second place. He was, though, thankfully able to recover in third which he held to the chequered flag at the end of lap 10 to secure his seventh podium of 2013.Beginning Sundays 17th round from sixth on the grid, the 16-year-old held station over the first lap but was edged back to seventh on the second tour. Remaining there until lap four, he then leapt into the top five at The Loop when slicing past Matty Graham and Seb Morris as they tangled. Two laps later, Charlie was able to usurp team-mate Raoul Hyman for fourth to cap a strong drive.Lining-up third on the grid for the final race of the weekend, by way of having posted the third fastest race lap up to that point, Investigo-backed Charlie slipped to fourth at the first corner and was then nudged back to fifth but hit back on lap two to again move into the top four.Elbowed down to fifth once more on lap four, Charlie remained right in the wheeltracks of Jack Barlows car but couldnt find a way past and took the flag on lap 10 just a second shy of his rival and only 1.5 seconds away from the podium.Silverstone hasnt been my strongest track this year, so Im happy we improved on what we did at the start of the season and managed to take away a podium this time, said Charlie, Were moving on to Snetterton in a few weeks and our pace was good there last time, hopefully we should be able to repeat that. From now on its all about consistencywe just need to score as well as we can.Its fantastic to have been invited to be part of the Rising Star scheme this weekend. Its really nice to be recognised as a driver with talent by such a prestigious club, its a big honour and hopefully I can make the most of what it will mean to my career.Snetterton 300 Circuit in Norfolk will be the venue for the penultimate three rounds of the BRDC Formula 4 Championship over the weekend 7th/8th September.
