Daniel Lloyd made a very well deserved, and long awaited, return to the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship podium at Knockhill in Scotland on Sunday, 25th August, with third place in the first race of the weekend and an improved runner-up spot in round 14.Absolutely determined to take some silverware back home to Huddersfield, particularly after two luckless events at Croft and Snetterton, the Team Parker Racing driver produced a pair of superb race performances at the challenging Fife track to climb back into the championship top four.“It’s fantastic to be back on the podium, it’s been a long time coming”, said the 21-year-old, “To be honest, we really struggled from the off this weekend so the whole team has had to work really hard for us to be in a position to get two podiums.“Realistically, we didn’t have the ultimate pace some of the others had, so to come away with such strong results is great. We also had some mega support this weekend from some guests of our sponsors at Silver Bay Point, so I’m really pleased we could give them podiums to celebrate.”Race two was the obvious highlight, Daniel started the 32-lap encounter from fourth on the grid and after a clean getaway he was able to slice his way into second place at the exit of SEAT Curves after a tangle at the first turn involving Rory Butcher and Dean Stoneman.As Butcher ran across the grass on the outside, Stoneman too was delayed and Daniel was able to shoot past the latter into Scotsman. For the first 10 laps, the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Scholar ran close behind race leader Michael Meadows, and was a distinct threat, but soon enough he had to concentrate more and more on his mirrors with Stoneman looming large.Driving faultlessly, the West Yorkshireman didn’t put a wheel wrong and managed to build a cushion of one second by lap 17. Although Stoneman closed back in during the final third of the race, Daniel was again able to see off any potential challenge to secure his seventh podium of 2013. Confirming his pace, his fastest lap of the race was a mere 0.1 seconds shy of the quickest of all.“Race two definitely topped the weekend off for us”, he reflected, “Dean [Stoneman] gave me so much pressure, it was a really tough race – it’s so easy to make a mistake at Knockhill, especially with the big kerbs. You have to focus and concentrate so hard, there’s no time at all to relax.”Beginning the earlier 13th round from fourth place, Daniel made a good start to hold position and set off after third placed Stoneman. At the chicane on lap two, the pressure on Stoneman told as he ran wide and sustained a puncture which enabled Daniel to slice past on the exit into the top three.No sooner had Stoneman made his mistake, Spanish driver Victor Jimenez then had a spin at the same corner which necessitated the appearance of the Safety Car. When the action resumed on lap eight, Daniel remained within a second of Butcher but as the race wore on the top four became more and more spread out.Holding third place to the finish, the result marked Daniel’s first podium since round eight at Oulton Park in June. Combined with the runner-up spot in round 14, the second year Porsche racer is now within 20 points of the championship top three.There is now a three week break in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship calendar with rounds 15 and 16 of the season taking place at Rockingham in Northamptonshire on 14th/15th September.
