Lone international of the Touring Car Masters, Keith Kassulke has today secured his second pole in the series, taking his Outbound Racing Ford XB Coupe to the top of the timesheets in qualifying, leading home an experienced pack to start the opening race of Round 6 from the prime position.
Having taken his maiden series pole at Queensland Raceway earlier this season, Kassulke has been keeping his racing eye in with a recent international outing in the Red Camel Audi R8 at the 24 Hours of Barcelona, returning home to Papua New Guinea, before again hitting Australian shores to re-join his Savy Motorsport prepared XB Coupe for this weekend’s Wilson Security Sandown 500.
Placing in the top three during the practice sessions, the team were looking for a top four start, so to secure pole has the Outbound Racing pilot more than impressed and ready for a big weekend, Kassulke saying,
"It’s just astounding. My second pole and that’s a huge thing in itself for me.“There are some quick guys here and I would have been happy in the top four given my practice times, but to put the car on pole is absolutely amazing.
“There isn’t much separating Andrew (Miedecke) and I, but it doesn't matter, I'm on pole."I have always said that the car’s preparation with Savy Motorsport has been second to none. The team are just brilliant and I will boast about the fact that they are possibly the best crew in the series, they are just so good.
“The car is the best it has ever been, and our third in this morning’s practice on old tyres had us even quicker than yesterday so it is superb. Thanks to Dick (Savy) and the guys – I’m as happy as anybody could be.
"I love this circuit and to line up on pole in front of this crowd, it’s going to be another huge high for me."With Kassulke recently tying down a drive in a Ford Focus V8 as part of the Global Touring Car Championship, there’s sure to be much more news coming from the garages of Outbound Racing.
