The date for the 12th Brickyard 400 was set for Sunday, Aug. 7, 2005, on the NEXTEL Cup Series schedule released May 14 by NASCAR.

The Brickyard 400 will be the 21st of 36 races on the 2005 schedule. The race, one of the most prestigious and popular on the NASCAR schedule, comes after an off week in the grueling schedule.

“We’re pleased with the date for the 2005 Brickyard 400,” said Joie Chitwood, Indianapolis Motor Speedway senior vice president of business affairs. “The event maintains its traditional date of the first weekend in August, and teams and drivers will be fresh and ready to race after a week off, providing an even more exciting race for our loyal fans.”

The 11th Brickyard 400 is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004. Kevin Harvick is the defending champion of the race.
