Oulton Park heralds opening AMOC historic race meeting of the season

Historic cars are poised to make a welcome return to Oulton Park for the first historic race meeting of 2014 at the Cheshire circuit. Over one hundred racers are confirmed for the AMOC Racing event on Saturday 10 May - a programme of seven races featuring over ten decades of competition cars.

The unique span of eras is best demonstrated in the AMOC Intermarque Championship race where Kevin Norville is aiming for victory in his 2013 Aston Martin GT4 however, two representatives of the prancing horse, Paul Brooks (Ferrari 456GT) and Tim Modgridge (Ferrari 355 Challenge) will be challenging. Battling head-to-head on level terms with the modern GT racers are valuable historics such as Peter Snowdon’s 1961 Aston Martin DB4 Lightweight and Jeremy Cooke’s 1974 RSR Martini Porsche.

Fans of 1950s and ‘60s Sports and Touring Cars are well catered for with “Equipe”GTS for smaller capacity endurance racers, AMOC ‘50s Sports Cars featuring the Vredestein JEC Jaguar XK Challenge and two races from the Historic Racing Driver’s Club including their Touring Greats for Pre ’60 Touring Cars and Allstars for Pre ’66 Sports, GT & Touring Cars.

Bentley, Aston Martin, Lagonda, Talbot, Jaguar and Riley are all represented in the Pre-War Team Challenge in a rare opportunity to see glorious 1920s and 30s racers in full flight.

Another ‘must see’ race is the Aston Club Racing Innes Ireland Cup for Pre ’66 GT and Touring Cars. Showcasing cars of the type that our celebrated hero - for whom the series is named - would have raced in period; the grid welcomes an Aston Martin Project 214 Replica, Lightweight Jaguar E-Type, Ford Shelby 350GT, Triumph TR4 and Ford Mustang to name but a few. Oulton Park’s intricacies will test the braking and handling of these cars to the limit so it’s set to be a thrilling battle over 45 minutes.

Tickets are available for £14 on the gate, children aged 13 and under FREE. Discounts are available to Aston Martin Owners Club members who are also invited to participate in a track parade during the lunch break. Practice gets underway at 08.30am with the first race - the Historic Racing Drivers Club Allstars - from 12.10pm followed by seven races that are scheduled to run until 18.20.
