Yokohama to enter Rallycross in the UK‏

The UK distributor for Japanese high performance and motorsport tyres, Yokohama, has confirmed that it will be supporting an entry in the 2015 British Rallycross Championship.

The brand has been present in the UK rallycross scene for some time; it is used as control tyre for the Suzuki Swift and Suzuki Swift Junior categories of the British Championship, as well as the RX buggies. However, until now, it has not been present in the highest level of the sport.

However, for the 2015 season, it will partner with the newly-formed Team RX Racing in the Supercar category, where tyre choice is free to the competitors. Team Principal and driver Ollie O'Donovan is no stranger to Yokohama, as he is the dealer who supports the existing competitors using Yokohamas in British Rallycross. His car will not only sport Yokohama tyres but also, the manufacturer's famous red and black livery in 2015.

He will be using a Ford Fiesta R5 supercar, developed by Tony Bardy Motor Sport and similar to those currently running in the FIA World Rallycross Championship. It features a 620bhp Julian Godfrey engine, five speed gearbox and 240/640R17 Yokohama ADVAN A005 rallycross tyres. These are the same as those adopted as control tyres by the Swedish Rallycross Championship.

Commenting, Head of Motorsport at Yokohama HPT Ltd, Mark Evans, said; "I am delighted to be working with Ollie to support his entry into the Supercar category of the 2015 British Rallycross Championship. We have known him for some time and with his experience, this car and the Yokohama ADVAN A005 tyre, I am sure that we will enjoy a successful year.

"In addition to competing with Yokohama, Ollie will continue to provide Yokohama tyres to the Rallycross community through RX Racing, including the new tyre to competitors who wish to use it alongside him in the Supercar class."
