Historic motorsport stars will be hitting the track at this year’s Cholmondeley Pageant of Power (CPOP), as the event celebrates F1 and Group B rally cars.

Throughout the weekend a fascinating selection of retro racers will thrill the crowds as they compete for the fastest time.

One of the cars representing F1 throughout the weekend will be the instantly recognisable Camel Lotus 102, the only Lotus to use a V12. It wasdriven in the 1990 Formula One World Championship by Derek Warwick and Martin Donnelly.

CPOP is very lucky to have the Lotus 18 Formula One car in which Stirling Moss took victories in 1961 at Monaco and the fearsome Nurburgring. After some time in Italy and club racing, it then became part of Tom Wheatcroft’s famous historic motoring collection at Donington Museum until it was sold in 2011, re-commissioned for racing and competed at the Monaco Historic – the scene of its first victory – in 2012.

Joining these Lotus’, will be a very rare 1951 Ferrari 212 F1 Monoposto. This particular car has quite a history, with many years of racing in the Americas throughout the 1950s. After racing, this special Ferrari didn’t turn a wheel for nearly two decades when, in 1972, it was discovered in a Montevideo garage and then restored for attendance at events such as this.

Adding to the F1 line up is the Jordan 194 3.5l V10 from the 1994 World Championship season. This car achieved numerous top ten finishes including 4th in Monza at the hands of Rubens Barrichello, 6th in Spain driven by Eddie Irvine and 4th in Monaco with Andrea de Cesaris at the wheel.

Taking on the legends of F1 will be some true icons from one of the most spectacular and controversial eras of rallying – Group B. One of the key highlights is the car that set the standard in the Eighties and brought the high-performance four-wheel drive coupe to the masses – the Audi Quattro S1.

In HB works Audi colours, this machine is powered by Audi’s famous 2.1-litre five-cylinder turbocharged engine, producing 420bhp in this state of tune. Another icon of the Group B era is the 500bhp, 1986 Lancia Delta S4. With an iconic Martini livery, this racer competed in the final year of this legendary rally class.

James Hall, event director at CPOP, said: “Former racing cars always prove a popular feature on the Cholmondeley track and we’re pleased to be welcoming such iconic groups to this year’s event. Both racing classes have fostered some of the quickest and sophisticated motors ever built and it is great to pay tribute to such legendary areas in motorsport.”

The eighth staging of CPOP will celebrate ‘power’ on land, air and water. The festival will honour the Lotus marque on Friday, American Muscle cars on Saturday and Eighties supercars on Sunday.

As for the two-wheeled aspect to the event, CPOP is welcoming bike legends Dougie Lampkin MBE and Sammy Miller MBE throughout the weekend, in addition to Triumph, the Millyard Viper V10 and a Suzuki Hayabusa.

In addition, Sunday will see the world’s only flying Vulcan take to the skies above Cheshire for the last ever time, with the Red Bull Matadors entertaining the crowd with an aerobatic display. This exciting air programme will follow the appearance of the RAF Typhoon Display Team on the Saturday.

On the lake there will be a wide range of watersport action including jet ski racing and flyboarding demonstrations.

The above, combined with camping, live music from Tenors of Rock and the RPJ Band and hundreds of exciting trade stands, will make CPOP the family-friendly motorsport event of the summer.

Tickets are now on sale at www.cpop.co.uk for the event at Cholmondeley Castle, Malpas, Cheshire. Adult tickets are priced from £30 with children’s tickets starting from £5.
