Targa Florio Classica starts its engines

From Thursday 15 to Sunday 18 October the most prestigious historic cars and the exclusive Ferrari Tribute GTs are on the streets of Sicily. Starting Ceremony in Palermo

 Targa Florio Classica is ready to kick off in Palermo. The historic regularity race gets underway from October 15 to 18, organized by AC Palermo in collaboration with Automobile Club d'Italy and ACI Storico is about to live its first act with the Starting Ceremony which will take place in front of the Teatro Massimo, Giuseppe Verdi Square, on Thursday from 18h00. There are about 80 cars that will enhance the charm of the city center. Among them, classic cars and many GT-cars from Maranello protagonists in the Ferrari Tribute. All cars can be admired from Thursday morning at the the Museo dei Motori e dei Meccanismi, Polytechnic School, University of Palermo, where, thanks to an efficient partnership, scrutineering will also take place, starting from 10h00 up to 16h00.

Angelo Pizzuto, AC Palermo president, comments: “It is an extraordary edition of both the Targa Florio Classica and the Ferrari Tribute, with plenty of cars and crews from all over Europe. Sicily is ready to embrace them all. Their passage through the Madonie Park, where everything started more than a century ago, will be something special. The recovery phase could not start better and everything will keep on going on with the hundredth edition of the Targa Florio in 2016”.

From Friday the first part of the route will cover the Via del Sale ("Salt Road"), in the Province of Trapani, heading to the Saline of Marsala, with windmills and the Egadi Islands as background. The exclusive "parade" will reach Mazara del Vallo, where competitors will visit the ancient Selinunte, Europe's largest archaeological park. This first leg is both full of competition, thanks to several ability tests, and exclusive visits and it was optimized in collaboration with AC Trapani.

Volvo brand is officially present in the Targa Florio Classica with its own team and three cars in the race. Alfa Romeo, Bristol, Bugatti, Fiat, Lancia, Jaguar, MG and Porsche are the more represented makes thanks to many historic models built from 1933 to 1975 and crews from all over the world.
