At the end of the Sicilian "Salt Road" the battle between the current leaders, Margiotta, Passanante, Accardo and Di Pietra rages on while Del Bufalo, Serventi and Verghini are fighiting in the Ferrari Tribute competition. Today, Saturday October 16, the second leg from Mazara del Vallo back in Palermo again
Targa Florio Classica has completed the first leg of this historic regularity race organized by AC Palermo in collaboration with Automobile Club d'Italia and ACI Storico.
The first leg started Friday morning within the University campus in Palermo. Then cars covered the Via del Sale ("Salt Road"), in the Province of Trapani, heading to the Saline of Marsala, with windmills and the Egadi Islands as background, and reaching Mazara del Vallo for night regrouping.
During the day Targa Florio Classica saw a very close battle between Giovanni Moceri, co-driven by Daniele Bonetti on the leader Fiat 508 C from 1939, Volvo PV 544 Sport works crew Antonino Margiotta / Bruno Perno, two Fiat 1100 103, in the hands of Mario Passante / Annamaria Pisciotta and Angelo Accardo / Linda Messina, and another experienced regularity driver such as Francesco Di Pietra, co-driven by Giuseppe Di Pietra on another Fiat 508 C. Twelfth overall and first foreing crew in the standing is the one formed by Swiss Stefano and Susanna Ginesi at the wheel of their Porsche 914-6 GT.
Ferrari Tribute is experiencing thrilling fights between Monica Del Bufalo Bobbia and Alessandro Del Bufalo (Ferrari California), Franco Serventi / Daniela Maccini (Ferrari California T) and Gino Verghini / Lamberto Fuso (Ferrari 512/TR) in the first three positions. Ending on Sunday afternoon in Castelbuono, on the heart of the Madonie Mountains, where Targa Florio was born, tomorrow (Saturday) cars will be back in Palermo for the second leg, travelling through the “Via di Garibaldi”, also known as Via dei Mille (“Road of the Thousand”), the glorious path where unification of Italy started.
