Roger Albert Clark Rally offers SUSTAIN fuel in historic first

Fuel of the future joins forces with the UK’s largest forest rally

Participants at this year’s Roger Albert Clark Rally (20-24 November) are being invited to fuel their forest runs with a more sustainable solution, thanks to a brand-new partnership with SUSTAIN.

In a historic first for the five-day rally, which travels across Wales, England, and Scotland, a fuel containing 50% sustainable content will be offered to all participants refilling their tanks at the service areas in Carmarthen, Pembrey, Carlisle and Kielder. Designed for vehicles that require a higher octane, SUSTAIN Racing C50 is a high-performance petrol that can be used without any engine modifications. It’s also a 102 RON / 89 MON unleaded fuel that is E0 (ethanol-free), making it ideal for classic vehicles.

Capable of delivering greenhouse gas savings of up to 35% compared to standard fossil fuel, the fuel utilises second-generation biomass (such as food wastes, straw, by-products or waste from crops which wouldn’t be used for consumption) within its blend. This material recycles the carbon that already exists in our atmosphere, rather than releasing additional CO2 that is currently locked underground in fossil fuels.

Colin Heppenstall from the Roger Albert Clark Rally said:
“The SUSTAIN brand has been going from strength to strength in the motorsport world, and we’re delighted to be offering one of its pioneering fuel blends at our 2025 event.

“Of course, we’ve already seen participants using SUSTAIN fuel in past years. And now, through this dedicated partnership, we hope to make it accessible to all our entrants, offering multiple fill-up points along the 320-mile route. With up to 200 competitors taking part, just think of the greenhouse savings we could collectively make, and all whilst showcasing the efficacy and environmental benefits you can enjoy using fuels with sustainable content.”

Originally launched in the UK in 2021, SUSTAIN is now used globally to deliver power, performance, and vital greenhouse gas savings. Its supporters include motorsport personality Tony Jardine, who has been using SUSTAIN fuel for several years and pioneered its use in the 2023 Roger Albert Clark Rally. 2003 WRC champion Phil Mills, ex-co-driver to Petter Solberg, has also already signed up to use the fuel as part of the Viking Motorsport team in the rally.

Sold alongside more traditional fuel options, SUSTAIN Racing C50 will retail at £5.50 per litre inc. VAT.

Suresh Nahar, SUSTAIN Brand Manager, commented:
“It’s an enormous privilege to be offering the first fuel containing sustainable content to all the participants of the Roger Albert Clark Rally. This move marks a major step forward in safeguarding the future of historic motorsport at a time when environmental legislation and green initiatives are reshaping the automotive landscape.

“Whilst SUSTAIN is a little more expensive than standard forecourt petrol, it’s not a dissimilar price to other specialist racing fuels and anecdotally people tell us their performance has improved using the fuel. Plus, like most things, there are economies of scale, and so the more sustainable fuels are accepted and used, the more prices will decrease over time. We also need more government support for sustainable fuels, as there has been for other green initiatives. But we know those in motorsport are often at the forefront of innovation and adaptation, which is why we are so excited to be involved with such a prestigious event.”
