Total Control Racings Carl Breeze realised his dream of becoming Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup Champion at Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit on Sunday, 21st October, amid incredibly emotional scenesthe Kings Lynn driver poignantly dedicating the title triumph to his late sister, Sarah, who tragically lost her life in a road accident a decade ago.Having been so close to sealing the championship over the past two years with Wednesbury-based TCR, the task this season looked near-impossible for Breeze with a deficit of almost 120 points to make-up at one stage, before rejoining Lee Brookes squad in time for the fourth event of the year.Putting together a sensational campaign since, Breeze took the championship lead for the first time during round 25 on Saturday, 20th October, with second place before adding two further podium finishes in round 26 and 27 to claim his first title since winning the Formula Renault UK single-seater championship back in 2001.Its been a hard, long fight, we were over 100 points down at one pointTCR is the best team in the country, said the 33-year-old, Id like to dedicate this championship win to my sister, Sarah, who lost her life 10 years ago. She last saw me win the Formula Renault UK Championshipthis is for you sis.Qualifying fifth on the grid for race one, Breezes cause was helped when points leader Tom Sharp had a driveshaft failure at the start.Paving the way for the Norfolk racer to make gains, he surged off the line into third place before moving into second on lap five where he stayed to the finish.Starting round 26 from the front row of the grid, Breeze managed to hold second and into Westfield he grabbed the lead with a superbly determined move. With conditions unbelievably difficult, he was the first to explore the grip levels and on lap six he slipped to second and defended brilliantly but had to cede second two laps from the finish. In the decisive final race of the year, round 27, Breeze was fourth on the reverse grid and although tagged a couple of times by Sharp at the start the TCR man maintained his composure. Running in fourth, he took third on lap four where he remained to the finish to be crowned 2012 champion. Not only does the title win mark Breezes first since he came to prominence in Formula Renault UK in his early 20s, the championship is the first drivers crown for TCR since guiding Jonathan Adam to the SEAT Cupra Championship title in 2008three years after he won the Clio Cup crown with TCR.Its great to get the job done, said team principal Brookes, Weve been so close the last couple of years, Carl used his head this weekend and did exactly what he needed to. With him not starting the season with us, from that far back in the points when we came back into the championship in June we really didnt think thered be a chance to challenge for the title. That makes it more special.Team-mate Jamie Orton endured another torrid and luckless weekend when a tremendous run in qualifying came to nothing with a prop-shaft failure before race one. Lapping with the sixth fastest time in qualifying, a mere 0.4 seconds shy of pole position, Ortons pace was a match for that of Breeze but he had to frustratingly sit-out race one.Forced to begin round 26 from the back of the grid, the London-based driver made great progress and carved his way through into the top 10 before being forced to pit with car troubles. Rejoining several laps down, Orton couldnt be classified for points but did confirm his pace by running the same lap times as race winner Mark Davies. In round 27, Orton again had to start at the back but produced an outstanding drive in shocking conditions to scythe his way through into sixth placeconfirming his front-running credentials should he return to the series in 2013.Dixon and TCR end Clio Cup season third overall with final round podiumJames Dixon capped-off a strong second half of the season in the AirAsia Renault UK Clio Cup with a rostrum finish in the final round on Sunday, to consolidate third in the championship for TCRa fantastic tally of five podiums from the last eight races.Dixon, like Breeze in Ginetta GT Supercup, didnt begin the year with Lee Brookes crack squad due to budget restrictions but after rejoining TCR for the fourth event of the year at Oulton Park he soon returned to front-running ways.Qualifying 10th in a very tricky session on Saturday, Dixon raced through into seventh place in a very closely contested encounter in which he had his hands full with Jake Giddings during the closing stages. At the flag on lap 12, he just managed to fend off his pursuer by 0.2 seconds. In round 16 on Sunday, Dixon started seventh on the grid but he made a great start and threaded his way neatly through some contact at the exit of Paddock Hill Bend to move up into the top three. He grabbed second at the beginning of lap three with a great move but was pushed back to third shortly after where he remained to the finish.Team-mates Nic Hamilton and Rob Smith had a more difficult ending to their respective campaigns, although the former drove brilliantly in race one to claim a 13th place finishending the encounter only 1.5 seconds shy of the top 12.Starting Saturdays race in 15th place, Hamilton moved into 14th and enjoyed a good midfield battle to see off Simon Belcher for 13th at the finish. In race two, Hamilton again scored some good points with 16th position after fighting back brilliantly having been shoved back to 23rd on lap one.Smith lost around 10 seconds at the beginning of race one due to confusion, with most drivers expecting a delayed start due to a stalled car on the grid. Instead, the action did get underway but the drama meant the drivers at the back were held-up so he had a thankless task and finished 18th.Round 16 was better for the Telford rookie as he fought through from 24th and last on the grid, having been unable to set a lap time in qualifying, into the top 16. Falling victim to a lunge at Paddock Hill Bend on the last lap, he slipped to 17th but still capped the year with a strong result. Were really happy to end the Clio season up on the podium with James, said Brookes, To come away with third in the championship, after only having him back with us a few rounds after the season had started, proves the point. He beat the two guys ahead of him in the championship as well this weekend [2012 Champion Jack Goff and Vice-Champion Paul Rivett] so thats great as well.
