Ingram makes it nine different winners in nine BTCC races

Tom Ingram became the ninth different race winner in the last nine Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship races, after the Team VERTU man got by pole-sitter Ash Sutton in the opener at Thruxton.

Sutton faded from second with what seemed like a mechanical issue as NAPA Racing UK team-mate Dan Cammish secured the place, whilst One Motorsport's Josh Cook claimed a hugely popular podium following his high-speed accident in qualifying yesterday.

The action kicked off almost immediately as Tom Chilton's Team VERTU Hyundai was seen spinning at turn one, as a three-way scrap with team-mate Senna Proctor and Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport's Jake Hill ensued.

The LKQ Euro Car Parts Racing with WSR BMW of Charles Rainford was another car having a wild ride across the grass and then back across the track, with a number of cars fortunate to take avoiding action, whilst Motor Parts Direct with Power Maxed Racing's Mikey Doble dive-bombed Cammish to take third at the Complex.

Contact between Max Hall's ROKiT Racing with Un-Limited Motorsport Cupra and Sam Osborne's NAPA Racing UK Ford brought about a six lap safety car period, but the battles commenced immediately after.

In fact, there had already been a dispute between Ingram and Sutton as the former believed he had passed the #116 prior to the safety car boards being shown.

Forced to give the place back, the two were at it again shortly after as Sutton's car slid into Ingram's machine at the final chicane, forcing both cars off-track.

Ingram returned in the lead, as Sutton began to slip back into the clutches of Cammish, who had since recaptured third after Doble ran deep into the Complex following the restart.

Worse was to follow for Doble as he pulled off with a mechanical issue, whilst a down-on-power Sutton dropped into fourth behind Cammish and Cook.

Cook's charge was phenomenal, particularly when you consider he was in hospital yesterday afternoon following his sizeable shunt in qualifying. Heavy bruising to his foot was not enough to keep the Thruxton specialist at bay, and the #66 made up for the opportunity by storming from 14th on the grid to third.

The Bath-based racer made a number of quality moves but his double pass by Proctor and three-time champion Gordon Shedden was a particular highlight. Proctor and TOYOTA GAZOO Racing UK with IAA's Shedden resumed their battle later on as contact between the pair sent the Corolla spinning across the grass.
